Dads everywhere are going to love this free printable DIY Father’s Day Mini Book that your kids can draw in and personalize. The book template is free to download and easy to print out and assemble.

Father’s Day is almost upon us!
I adore presents that kids can make themselves. We already have the Father’s Day coupon book all prepared and ready to go. Then I thought …
How cute is it to have a book full of drawings all about daddy that we can look through when the kids are older?
Here is a DIY Father’s Day mini book that your kid can make. Your kid is too little to write a card, but they have a lot to say about dad. This free Father’s Day mini book printable lets them say it the way little kids say everything best – by drawing it. You print the template, hand over a crayon, and a few minutes later you’ve got a stack of pages you’ll still be flipping through when they’re parents themselves.
Wait until you see what ideas your children come up with! And don’t worry, I have a free template to make this homemade gift nice and easy.
How to Make a DIY Father’s Day Mini Book
Materials:
- Cardstock paper
- Father’s Day Mini Book template (scroll down to the bottom of the post for the download form)
- Stapler
- Coloring pencils, crayons, or markers
- Scissors
Directions:
- Print the Father’s Day Mini Book template on cardstock paper. There are a few extra pages at the end in case you want to write your own prompts.
- Cut the pages apart along the lines.
- Read each prompt out loud and let your kid draw their answer.
- Stack the finished pages in whatever order they like.
- Staple the left edge.
I encourage you not to guide your kid too much. Read the prompt and have them come up with what they want to draw. Prepare to be surprised!

My 3-year-old daughter initially wanted me to help her draw. She is a perfectionist and didn’t want to risk drawing something wrong. I told her that there is no right way to draw the pictures; whatever she wanted to do would be fine.
My 6-year-old son took this Father’s Day mini book very seriously and carefully drew each page. You can tell by the details in his pictures.

Look at all the adorable pictures!
In case you are not sure if you could decipher the pictures years later, you can always write a short description either on the same page or on the opposite side.

Why This One Is a Drawing Book Instead of a Fill-in-the-Blank Book
Most free Father’s Day books are fill-in-the-blank questionnaires. Dad’s name, dad’s age, dad’s favorite color, line after line for kids to write on. Sweet, if your kid likes writing. This one flips that. A couple of quick fill-ins to start, then page after page your kid draws: what dad’s the best at, a favorite memory, the two of them together. It comes out as a real little book they fold and bind, not a single sheet they hand over.
It also has a couple of cheeky prompts you won’t find in the sugary versions. Something that makes my dad mad. He is not great at. Hand those to a five-year-old and brace yourself, because the answers are the ones dad will be reading out loud for years.
If your kid would rather write every answer out on one page, the All About My Dad printable is the fill-in-the-blank version. Same heart, a lot less drawing. Pick whichever one fits your kid, or do both if you’ve got a big one and a little one.
What’s on Each Page of the Mini Book
Every page has a short prompt and a big frame to draw in. Here’s the full set, cover to back:
- Happy Father’s Day cover with hearts to color and a “From” line for your kid’s name
- This is my dad (draw his portrait)
- My dad’s name is ____
- My dad is ____ years old
- His job is ____ (draw him at work)
- Something that makes my dad happy
- Something that makes my dad mad
- He is the best at ____
- He is not great at ____
- My favorite memory of dad is ____
- I love when my dad ____
- My favorite thing to do with dad is ____
- My dad and I ____ (draw the two of you)
There are a few blank framed pages at the end too. If your kid has a thing about dad they’re dying to include, write your own prompt across the top and let them fill it in. Dad’s truck. The dog they walk together. Whatever it is.
I hope you and your kid had fun making the Father’s Day mini book! I certainly had a few laughs watching my kids draw and listening to their ideas.
I can’t wait to show this to them when they are adults!
Happy Father’s Day!
