How to Make Heart Hot Air Balloon Card
List of Supplies:
- Free heart hot air balloon card template
- Colored cardstock paper
- Colored craft papers
- Craft glue
- Pencil
- Scissors
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Make the Card Base
Select a cardstock paper to make the card base. We chose to use blue colored cardstock paper. Cut a rectangular piece off the cardstock paper and fold it in half. You can decide how big you want the card, but just make sure you leave enough room for the heart hot air balloon.
Step 2: Cut Out the Template Patterns
Download and print out the free heart hot air balloon template.
Select different colored craft papers for the template patterns. Trace and cut out the heart shapes from colored craft papers of your choice and cut out the cloud shapes from white paper.
Trace and cut out the 2 strips and the square shape from any colored paper as you wish. These are the ropes and the basket of the hot air balloon.
Step 3: Make the Heart-Shaped Envelope of the Hot Air Balloon
We’re going to use the hearts to make the envelope (the balloon portion).
Fold the heart shapes in half, symmetrically.
Take the cloud shapes and stick them on the card (to the front side). Keep the clouds near the 2 sides of the card as we’ll place the air balloon in the middle of the paper, between the clouds.
Take any 2 half folded heart shapes and glue them side by side to from a full heart shape.
Squeeze glue between the two hearts. Stick the rest of the half folded heart shapes between the 2 previous ones. This will give the heart pattern a 3D look.
Step 4: Make the Basket
Stick the square shape (basket) below the 3d heart, making sure to keep an inch gap between the basket and the heart pattern. Stick the 2 strips on both sides of the basket to attach it with the 3D heart balloon.
Use a sharpie to draw a checked pattern on the square shape, or you could leave it plain and simple.
Your kids will be so proud of this heart hot air balloon card. It looks complicated but it’s not difficult to create. If you are making this in a classroom, I recommend cutting out all the template patterns ahead of time so that your kids can focus on putting all the pieces together during class.
This heart hot air balloon card will warm the hearts of moms, dads, grandparents, and friends this Valentine’s Day. It’s also a beautiful gift to give to moms on Mother’s Day. Your kids will be so happy to see it displayed on the wall with the cool 3D effect.
