What’s your reaction when you hear “SEO”?

Does the term “search engine optimization” make you want to hide in the corner and type your blog posts in the dark?

That was me. In my first 2 years of blogging, I avoided SEO like the plague. Reading about keyword research just gave me a headache. Thinking about on-page and off-page optimization made me want to throw in the towel and give up blogging.

However, I knew SEO is important for blogging. I knew I have to learn about it eventually because just relying on Pinterest for traffic is not the long-term strategy for driving traffic to my blog.

ENTER STUPID SIMPLE SEO.

Before we dive into why Stupid Simple SEO is the quintessential course to take to jump-start your SEO game and for you to rank higher on Google, let’s chat about the basics.

What is SEO and Why is It Important?

SEO, or search engine optimization, is basically getting Google to rank your posts higher and therefore increasing the traffic to your website through organic search engine results.

Think about it. When is the last time you actually click on a website that appears on the second page of Google results? Most people type in what they need to know in the search bar, click on the first few search results, and call it a day. Therefore, having your post appearing on page 5 does not help you get any visits to your site.

You might be wondering, man that sounds difficult, why not just stick with Pinterest?

The Pinterest algorithm keeps changing.

As you may have already experienced, your views can skyrocket one day and hit rock bottom the next. Riding on a traffic roller coaster in the dark is not the way to get consistent traffic to your site.

You need to diversify your traffic.

It’s important to not put all your traffic eggs in one basket. If 90% of your traffic is coming from Pinterest and if you want to manage your risk and not be at the total mercy of Pinterest, you need to diversify your traffic source.

Google traffic is largely passive.

Pinterest is high maintenance – you have to pin consistently every day to keep Pinterest happy. Once you rank on Google, you don’t have to do much maintenance to keep the traffic going. In fact, if you are ranking #1 or #2, you may just want to leave it alone. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

Google traffic is extremely targeted.

Pinterest is a visual search engine, and therefore you need beautiful pins to attract people to click. This can take hours if you are not versed in designing pins. People use Google to find solutions for specific problems and therefore your traffic depends on your content, which is why most of us started blogging in the first place – writing posts to help people!

How is Stupid Simple SEO Different?

There are tons of free SEO resources and paid SEO courses on the internet. So why should you invest money in Stupid Simple SEO and why is it better than the other SEO courses?

Stupid Simple SEO is just as its name says. It makes SEO so simple that you feel stupid for not knowing it in the first place. At least that’s how I felt after I took the course.

Stupid Simple SEO explains SEO in layman’s terms.

Before I purchased the course, I signed up for Mike’s FREE SEO training.

The training will give you just a hint of what he covers in the course, but for me, the training opened my eyes to the world of SEO. Mike explains everything in-depth in his videos, but in a way even beginner bloggers can understand. Instead of being scared of SEO, I thirsted for more.

Fun fact: After taking the training, I could not stop talking about it to my husband. So he secretly emailed Mike and got Mike to enroll me in the course for my birthday! Best birthday present ever!

Stupid Simple SEO is more about just keywords.

When most people think about SEO, they think it’s about targeting the right keywords and optimizing your content. But Stupid Simple SEO teaches much more than that. Here are some of the lessons that I didn’t expect to learn from an SEO course:

  • It makes you rethink the way you set up your blog so that Google recognizes you as the authority site for your niche.
  • It teaches you how to write epic content that will have your readers bookmark your post or share your post with friends.
  • It dives into affiliate marketing and the types of posts you can write to make money.
  • It discusses how to do roundup posts the right way so that they can lead to guest posts (and therefore backlinks) on higher authority sites.

The course motivated me to do a complete makeover for my site and the feedback has been amazing! I have also been going back to my older posts and reformatting them as well as adding on more content to make them pillar posts for my blog.

Stupid Simple SEO goes over lots of concrete examples.

One thing I love about the way Mike teaches is that he gives so many examples. He doesn’t just explain the basic concept and then move on to the next topic. He lays out the groundwork in detail, and then give you several examples in different niches so you can see clearly how you can implement what you just learned on your own website.

Stupid Simple SEO provides the SEO solution to multi-niche blogs.

I am sure by now you have heard “riches is in the niches.” Seems like everywhere you look, experts are telling you to niche down. But what happens when you cannot or do not want to niche down? Mike addresses this issue in the course and shows you how to design your site so that Google will view each category as its own silo page and rank you for multiple niches.

Stupid Simple SEO gives actionable steps that bring results.

Each module of the course is mind-blowing and makes you want to want to spend the entire day and night on your site to implement what you just learned. I started going through my older posts to ensure that they are optimized for SEO, and the proof is in the pudding.

The course is only open four times per year because Mike wants to focus on his students. Sign up for the FREE TRAINING today for a preview and start your SEO journey!

Case Study: How one of my blog posts ranked on the first page of Google TWO WEEKS after I published it on my brand new site.

I originally published “How to Treat and Prevent Milk Blister” back in January of 2019 on my old blog. It has some traffic from Pinterest, but ZERO organic traffic from Google. It made sense considering I couldn’t even find it when I searched the keywords in Google (well, I didn’t look for it after page 8 because what’s the point?).

After I took the Stupid Simple SEO course, I updated the post with what I learned as far as optimizing the post for SEO, including changing the permalink, putting in the proper headers, and making the post easier to read.

I re-published it on April 24th, 2019 on my brand new site (this one!) that I didn’t even publicly launch yet. This site had a domain authority of 1 and knowing that Google takes a long time (typically 4-6 months) to index and start to rank posts, I didn’t even think to check where my posts stand in the Google rankings.

TWO WEEKS LATER, I was checking my site on Google Search Console, and I noticed that it showed I was ranking for several keywords. How exciting! Naturally, I searched for those keywords on Google to see where I stand, and I was surprised to see that my milk blister post made it on the first page of Google results when you search for “how to prevent milk blisters”.

Okay, here was definitely room for improvement since the post was ranked #10, but come on! TWO WEEKS! It might have been even less than that and I just didn’t check. It outranked posts from huge sites like www.verywellfamily.com that had a domain authority of 75. That just blew my mind.

Update 6/3/2020:

Even though I have pivoted the focus of my blog to kids activities rather than breastfeeding, the milk blister post is still on the first page of Google – now ranked 8th!

Proof that Stupid Simple SEO Works

It has been a little over a year since the relaunch of my blog, and because of Stupid Simple SEO, my organic search traffic has been increasing steadily.

One of the things you will learn in the free training is that you should niche down. About 4 months ago (February 2020), I decided to pivot my blog to a kids activities blog rather than a general mom blog.

I went back to the Stupid Simple SEO course and reviewed how to write epic content, on-page SEO, how to get backlinks, etc. Here is proof that what Mike teaches really works!

4. Free Downloads & Checklists

If you hate spreadsheets, no problem! Mike gives you the exact same spreadsheets he uses to track his link building campaigns and which keywords he is targeting, as well as checklists that tell you if your on-page SEO is looking good and if you should go after a certain keyword. All you have to do is substitute his data with yours (and he teaches you how to do that step by step in his videos) and you are ready to go.

Are You Ready to Increase Your Rankings?

One thing I want to point out about the course is that YOU HAVE TO PUT IN THE WORK. It’s not a miracle pill that you take and magically you will grow your traffic and rank #1 on Google.

However, if you follow what Mike teaches you, YOU WILL SEE RESULTS.

I highly recommend Stupid Simple SEO to bloggers who want to diversify their traffic and learn how to rank in Google, grow their traffic, and increase their revenues. It definitely changed my blogging game and I hope it does the same for you!

  1. This is honestly so so helpful! I’ve also been avoiding SEO like the plaugue because it seems too complicated and it seems like I just get more confused with each new thing I read about it. Just signed up for Mikes free 5 day course!

    1. I am so excited you signed up! You will see how much even the 5 days of emails will help you understand SEO. I hated SEO and now I am in love. Good luck!

    2. Sometimes this Seo can be a bit complicated for me, so many tricks to learn. This course sounds very interesting!

  2. SEO is so important I am learning and this post is so beneficial. I use Yoast SEO on WordPress and am so glad they have that plugin because otherwise I wouldn’t know what I was doing. Thanks!

    1. Yes Yoast SEO is super beneficial! That said don’t get stressed out if you can’t get the green light – some green lights matter while other do not!

      1. I really want to enroll now . When is the next enrollment because its almost $300 so i will need to enroll next time and praying I’m not just wasting money. I’ve invested so much into my website and have yet to see any google traffic results. My pinterest traffic is great i just feel uncomfortable solely relying on that!

    1. I think it’s important to at least understand the basics of SEO for beginner bloggers because you don’t want to me like me – 100+ posts later, realizing I did it all wrong!

  3. As a new blogger I am just beginning to uncover the importance of seo. Thank you for the resource, I may need to check out this free bootcamp!!

  4. Sometimes it is also difficult to write something following SEO. I installed a plugin and one of its factors is to place the keyword at the beginning of the title. But this doesn’t work all the time. So I have to compromise at certain level.

  5. Yep, I am one who wants to run and hide when the term SEO comes around. Being a new blogger can be so overwhelming! There is so much to learn and so much to do. I will consider taking the course but will try his free boot camp email course. Thanks so much for the review 🙂

  6. Is it better to have a little bit of understanding of SEO before enrolling? And should I already have a good amount of blog posts written?

I’d love to learn more but so far I only have 8 posts written.

    1. I honestly had no idea about SEO before taking the course. I read a blog post here and there and thought SEO is all about keyword research, but boy was I wrong!
If you are a brand new blogger you might get a little overwhelmed because you want to focus on creating content and Pinterest probably in the first 3 months of blogging.
However, it’s never too early to learn SEO and this course also teaches you how to write epic content. After taking this course, I ended up going through tons of my old posts and updating them for SEO. I feel like I should have taken this course much earlier because it’s better and easier to optimize your posts for SEO in the first place instead of going back to fix the posts.
So up to you! If you wait the course will close for enrollment until around August. Mike only opens the course 4 times a year. So again if you are a brand new blogger I would wait until next time it opens. If you already know your basic blogging stuff and want to now expand to SEO then take the course now! 🙂 Hope that helps.

That is wonderful! I am also one of those who haven’t take SEO course as I have no time yet. But I know I need to take it ASAP.

  8. Interesting read, so many of us struggle to get ranked if you are not paying high prices on Google. I like reading what others have done to make a difference for their business to get known.

    1. It’s great to see your page ranked in Google, and you don’t need to pay for it! Stupid Simple SEO really made a huge difference in my blogging strategy.

  9. Thanks so much for this review; I need to go back and really pay attention to this course and to SEO; love your own examples of success you posted and congrats on those well -deserved successes.. now i hope i can blog about something like this soon…
