What is Groundhog Day?
Groundhog Day is an annual tradition celebrated on February 2nd in the United States and Canada, where a groundhog (also known as a woodchuck) is used to predict the arrival of spring. According to German folklore, if the groundhog emerges from its burrow and sees its shadow, winter will continue for six more weeks; if it doesn’t see its shadow, spring is expected to arrive early.
The most famous Groundhog Day event occurs in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, where Punxsutawney Phil has been making weather predictions since 1887. The ceremony occurs at Pennsylvania’s Gobbler’s Knob, where Phil emerges from his temporary home and Phil’s handler announces the groundhog’s forecast. While entertaining, statistical evidence shows the groundhog’s predictions are only about 30% accurate.

I recommend printing the pages on a thicker paper like cardstock and laminating them so they can last year after year. You can also use a dry-erase marker for the Word Scramble, and after you are done, wipe it clean with a piece of slightly damp paper towel for the next player.
Happy Groundhog Day!
